Helping New Players & Finding a Game

Helping New Players & Finding a Game

What you'll get from this lesson: Grow the community — teach beginners kindly, find your people, and keep getting better.

The best thing about mahjong is that it keeps growing, one new player at a time. However you found the game, you can help someone else find it too — and find plenty of games for yourself along the way.

Teach with patience

New players learn fastest when they feel welcome. Offer tips when they’re asked for, keep corrections gentle, and resist the urge to play their hand for them — let them make the choice and learn from it. A kind first table is often what turns a curious beginner into a lifelong player.

Find your people

You can join a local club, take a class, or connect with players through a community like Find My Mahjong — that’s exactly what we’re here for. Prefer to practice first? Playing online against computer opponents lets you rehearse turns, the Charleston, and reading the card at your own pace, with no pressure at all.

Keep getting better

Play often, study the card between games, and watch what winning players discard and expose. Most of all, keep it fun — you improve fastest when you’re enjoying yourself. Wherever and whenever you play, there’s always a seat waiting. That’s the whole idea behind Find My Mahjong: a place where players gather.
